Electric Fender Basses – An Important Legacy
In the 1950s, Fender released the very first mass-produced electric bass guitar that consumers could buy to start their music career. Soon after its release, the Fender Bass Guitar found a place with some of the most innovative musicians of the day like William ‘Monk’ Montgomery, Lionel Hampton and Roy Johnson, who had unique musical visions and visionary players in their bands, taking the Fender electric bass and making it a respectable, important instrument in the musical landscape. Gibson soon released a bass guitar after the Fender Precision Bass came out, designed to look like a violin as opposed to a guitar. With the unveiling of these two electric bass guitars, the music business was permanently changed; electricity was now ingrained into the world of music.
Fender’s bass guitar, over the years, has only been tweaked a fragment, mostly staying true to its original composition. The original electric bass guitar models created by Leo Fender in the 1950′s were such fine instruments that they have become classics. Today, those original models, as well as those from the next couple of decades, are in great demand by musicians. Fender experimented with some models that were altered from that basic model, and reviews were unfavorable. This experimenting proved that Fender hit the nail on the head with the original pattern.
There are numerous designs for bass guitars nowadays, not to mention the number of materials it can be made from, and added factors. Which guitar you want to get depends on your sensibilities. You’ll more often discover wood bass guitar bodies, however you can find graphite and even ebony and other special materials to have for your guitar. With each material comes a auditory sensation singular to the guitar as well as a particular tonal quality. To find the preferred material, you may want to experiment with some different types. You may also decide if you need frets on your neck. The presence or absence of frets is another ingredient that changes the sound since the strings will be resting on a metal fret or a wood neck.
The new bass sound has become an important component of the tonal landscape of popular music, so no matter what kind of bass you get, you’ll have part of music history.
