What you always wanted to know about Cuckoo Clocks
The cuckoo clock immediately became an item that every home must have. The popularity of the black forest cuckoo clock lies in its uncommon design. decorative wall clocks are widely used thanks to the appeal and the elegance that they provide in each home they are displayed. Displaying antique wall clocks inside the home has always been popular because of the appeal and the elegance that a decorative wall clock can provide.
The clock makers who started to produce well crafted black forest cuckoo clock made Germany’s black forest suddenly popular during the 17th century. The residents of the black forest mountains are skilled in the art of wood crafting. Once these highly skilled craftsmen started to team up with the citizens of the area who were mathematically well endowed, the black forest cuckoo clock was born. These people who went before us had no awareness that we in a later generation would so prize a wooden decorative wall clock or kitchen wall clock that has been left to us.
The person who was most credited with the creation of the very first cuckoo clock is Franz Anton Ketterer, who worked on it around 1730. He is known as the person who used a bellows to recreate the sound of a cuckoo, hence, the black forest cuckoo clock.
The cuckoo clock and many other antique wall clocks are designed to have a square face that is traditionally painted with the finest watercolors. But eventually, clockmakers began to create far more elaborate versions of the black forest cuckoo clock. For instance, as the cuckoo clock evolved, the wings and mouth became movable and real feathers were incorporated into the bird’s body. It is far too valuable to be displayed on a kitchen wall.
Some 680 clock makers and around 580 decorative wall clock dealers already started to cover the Triberg and Neustadt districts by the early 1800s. As most farms were covered with snow in winter; clocks were usually made during that time. The details of their works where made by the black forest cuckoo makers especially in this time of the year. Clock sellers will get an opportunity to exhibit and sell their fine cuckoo clocks, they have made painstakingly, after the winter season is over.
