Getting Started
First you need to select a space for your wood fired pizza oven.It should be installed away from overhanging tree branches and out of the way of any objects that may be damaged by the heat.
To prevent the base of your oven from getting damaged or warped from frost, it’s important to dig the foundations several feet deep.
Laying the Foundation
Your wood fired pizza oven’s foundation can be made from most common building materials. The standard material is concrete but there are many other alternatives that you can use to give your oven its own unique look and character such as adobe, cob, mortar or rocks as well as using a combination of materials.Withstanding heat and durability are really the only two things that need to be considered when laying the foundation.
Pouring the Slab
The hearth slab should be stabilised during curing with a wire framework. If you intend, as you should, to have an ash trap, remember to leave an opening for the ashes to drop through.
Building the Hearth
The hearth (oven floor) is made using the refractory firebricks supplied with the wood fired pizza oven D-I-Y kit.The extreme heat in the oven rquires that the oven floor is tough enough to absorb the huge amounts of heat.
It’s advisable to draw up the intended hearth layout with paper and pen before starting the building. This ensures accurate measurements when it comes to building the hearth.
Placing the Vault
The dome is layered to provide for maximum heat retention.  The layers consist of a fire brick or refractory dome covered by ceramic fibre insulation, then alfoil followed by chicken wire and finally the rendering.
Using a prefabricated dome means a much simpler installation. They are additionally better at retaining heat than customary fire bricked domes.
Letting it Rest
Generally you should leave the oven to settle and dry out for one week before using it to cook.
Then it’s time to stoke up the fire, mix the dough, lay on the ingredients and get ready for pizza heaven.
