Steps to paint your Treated Lumber
Pressure Treated Lumber is far enhanced than ordinary lumber. The lumber is exposed to chemical preservatives that make it stronger and sturdier. In addition, fungi and insects cannot live in this treated lumber. Another important feature to mention yet that pressure treated lumber can stand even under the all toughest weather conditions.
However, there is a strict grasp when approach to this kind of Treated Timber. It cannot be painted the similar manner as you paint normal lumber. But with a few fine tips, you can be on your way of succeeding the task. Here, check out these tips for painting treated lumber:
1. Stay for the right period to paint. The chemical preservatives in the lumber can affect how paint stick on to the wood. Hence, it is significant that the painting is done in right period. You must wait three to six months before you paint the wood.
2. Blemish the lumber to be painted. Paint grip on the wood turn into better if the lumber is blemished first. Hence, following one or two months of treating the wood, stain the lumber to arrange it for painting.
3. Clean the lumber before painting it. A clean treated lumber has improved paint absorption. Hence, before you start painting, rub the lumber surface using a stiff brush with a soapy solution. Afterwards, clean the surface carefully using clear water. Let the wood to dry finally before starting the painting process.
4. Plan the materials for the painting task. Here is the list that you need: paintbrush, preservative for treated wood, and paint. Make a note that the paint is not same as you use for regular woods. Also, keep in mind that pressure treated wood paint is little expensive than regular paint.
5. Alarm preservative onto the treated wood. The preservative is necessary to prevent the wood from bad weathering. Still the treated lumber already has chemicals in it; this preservative will act as additional shielding layer to the wood.
6. Choose latex paints above oil based ones. You can use oil based paints for painting pressure treated kind of lumber. However, latex based is an enhanced option. This is true because latex is durable and can work better in wood.
7. Apply the paint on the treated lumber. If you are painting a tiny wood area, use a paintbrush for the task. This is to ensure that you paint every corner of the wood. However, for larger painting task, use a spray for a quality painting job.
8. Apply over coating of paint onto the wood. As a rule, before you apply second coating of paint, let the surface to dry first. Then, carry on painting the wood again.
Though painting treated wood is a lot special than regular wood painting tasks, this is not at all a difficult one. Establish you to know the right things to do; you will succeed in painting this material just like how you paint the rest of the wood products at home or at work.
