Creative Holiday Gift Ideas

With the holiday season fast approaching, it is time once again to face the challenge we have every year.  The challenge of finding the perfect gift for the people on your shopping list.  How can you give your friends and family nice gifts without spending a lot of money?  In this article, you will discover how to come up with creative holiday gift ideas to please everyone on your list.

The best gifts are those that show you put some thought into it, which is why I like to make or customize my holiday gifts.  I really think about the person who will be receiving my gift, and take their hobbies and favorite things into consideration when determining what sort of gift to give.  This means so much more not only to the person opening your present, but it gives you a chance to remember special memories of time spent together with each person.   

Another neat thing about creative holiday gift ideas is that they can save money and result in what may be considered the most awesome gifts under the tree.  The sky is the limit and you are limited only by your imagination and creativity.

The fun of designing gift baskets, boxes, or other creative items can also get you in the holiday mood.  You can slow down and take the time to be creative, instead of racing around from store to store, fighting traffic and waiting in long lines.  Consider how working on your gifts becomes a big holiday stress buster!

When you are thinking about creative holiday gift ideas, think about each person and what they enjoy as a hobby.  Is your person into football?  Do they drool over chocolate?  Is the local bookstore their second home?  Whatever their interests, the fun begins as you start to come up with ideas to customize a basket or gift box.

If you have a talent such as crocheting, painting, ceramics, canning, or baking, why not give a little of yourself this year?  Is there anyone on your list who would not love to receive something hand-crafted or made by you? 

For someone who is always cold, a beautiful scarf or afghan would certainly be appreciated and enjoyed for years to come. 

For someone who is working full-time and raising a family, a homemade pie or tray of cookies would be a very nice gift for their whole family to enjoy.

If you are too busy to make something yourself, visit a local craft fair and pick up some one-of-a-kind, unique creative holiday gifts.  You can put together handmade items with store-bought items for a nice mix, such as homemade candles or scent diffusers with purchased mini bags of potpourri.  I remember when I was a young child, my mother would make homemade candles of all different colors and scents, and placed them in all sorts of different containers.  They were really nice candles and the best part was that my mother made them by hand.

If there is a pet lover on your list, you could purchase a dog or cat bed (or fish bowl, etc.) and fill it with all kinds of goodies.  What about baking your own dog treats?  In any event, be sure to include toys, treats, and bath or grooming items.   

What about a movie lover?  You can buy “movie theater” boxes of candy, cans of soda and bags of unpopped popcorn, along with movie passes or gift cards from the local video store.  A movie poster is a fun touch!

A cheese and sausage platter, hot chocolate or holiday candy in a pretty container are all neat gifts.  You can purchase small sample-size items from any store and then mix them all together for a custom gift box or basket that is sure to rival any pre-made items from the store.

A theme basket such as manicure/pedicure, lotion/bath oil or puzzle books with an assortment of soothing tea makes a great gift.

Potpourri in an elegant glass bowl is not only fragrant, but very pretty and may be used as a holiday centerpiece.  Do not forget to use fragrant evergreen branches, pine cones or berries to use in a centerpiece.  Remember to include inexpensive candles or ornaments in your arrangements for some added flair.

Was there a special family event during the course of the year?  A beautifully framed photograph would surely be considered a keepsake gift.

It is hard to believe, yet the holiday season will soon be upon us.  Make this year special by using these creative holiday gift ideas for those you love.
