Simple Items to Decorate Your Kitchen

Typically, the kitchen is where families spend most of their time, more than any other room in the house. Thus, it makes sense to create a kitchen thats stylish and different from anything else youve seen before. This way, you can give your family a place where they can eat, talk, and spend time together in a unique setting that has character and charm.

Display Your Cookbooks
Are your cookbooks hidden away in a drawer or on a bookshelf somewhere in the living room? Consider displaying them instead for people to see when they walk into your kitchen. You might place them on a shelf on the wall or even on the top of your fridge. Add in a couple of cute bookends to hold everything in place and you will have created an instant dcor items thats also functional and practical.

Hang Some Kitchen Signs
In terms of kitchen signs, there are literally hundreds of different ones to choose from. Select a sign that fits into the theme and style of the dcor youre going for.

If youre trying to create an old retro kitchen, you might choose to hang a neon sign that says something like “Kitchen Open” or “Open 24 Hours.”

You can give your kitchen some country charm with signs displaying roosters or perhaps some country sayings.

If you are creative, you might try to come up with your own sign with only a piece of wood and some paint. By creating a sign of your own, you can help ensure that your kitchen will be uniquely yours.

Use Recipes to Add Dcor
Did you know that recipes actually make a great wallpaper border? This can either be done with some handwritten versions of your favorite recipes or with torn-out pages from a cookbook or magazine. The pages will need to be sealed with a clear poly-acrylic in order to protect them. Then all you need to do is to paste them to the wall.

If a wallpaper border isnt going to work in your kitchen, then consider making a wall of recipes near your cooking area. You might choose to create more of a collage effect with the recipes, although then they wont all be legible. You could even take this a step further and create a collage with the recipes and different food photos to create the ultimate one-of-a-kind wallpaper.

Create a Backsplash with Some Hand-Painted Tiles
By creating a backsplash with your very own hand-painted towels, you can decorate your kitchen in a unique way. Ceramic tiles can easily be painted, and then you can use a sealer to preserve your handiwork. Themed pictures might be painted on random tiles throughout the backsplash, or you could get your kids involved and have them paint some pictures for you. In either case, your backsplash will lend a unique look to your kitchen and add a family touch to the room as well.

Kitchens need not be boring, nor do they all need to look the same. There are plenty of items probably sitting in your kitchen right now that can be used to add personality to your kitchen. By getting creative and involving your entire family in the decorating process, you will be able to come up with a unique dcor for your kitchen.
