Ballpoints and rollerballs
In 1943, a Hungarian journalist, Lazlo Biro and his brother Georg, who was a chemist, laid the foundation for the ball point pen by madking the first commercial Biro pens using a rotating metal ball and quick-dry ink. In 1945, Frenchman Marcel Bich developed an industrial process which enabled low-cost production, and the pens were called Bics – a name which still stands today.
Pressurized pens
These are also called ‘space pens’ and use a viscoelastic ink which is made into liquid by the roller. These can work underwater and in extreme weather conditions and have a very long shelf life.
Fountain Pens
L E Waterman, an insurance salesman, is believed to have pioneered the fountain pen, coming up with his design at a kitchen table at the back of a cigar store.He patented his design in 1884 and today, over 120 years later, fountain pens are still seen as the mark of true style and elegance.
Erasable pens
