All You Need To Know About Russia Special Forces?

The Russian Special Forces are known as the Spetsnaz GRU, or simply the GRU. They are considered the most highly trained of all of the special forces in Russia and have been around since just after the second World War.

Their History

The Spetsnaz GRU worked in reconnaissance during WWII and after the war was reorganized. They are considered to be one of the most elite special forces teams in the world and operate much like the British SAS as well as the United States Delta Force.

Weapons Of Spetsnaz GRU Special Forces

They use the basic equipment of the Russian Land forces but also have a specialized ballistic knife developed just for them. This allows a blade to be ejected while the knife is held in the hand. They also use silencers on the SP R pistol.

Known Missions

They have been involved in the Soviet War in Afghanistan, the First Chechen War, the Second Chechen War and the South Ossetria War.

Units

The units consist of the 2nd ObrSpN, the 3rd Guards ObrSpN, the 10th Mountain, the 12th, the 14th Separate Brigade, the 16th Spetsnaz Brigade, The 22nd Guards, The 24th Spetsnaz Brigade, the 67th ObrSpN and the 216 INDEP SPETNAZ BN located in Moscow.

They are professional soldiers and considered to be highly elite among special forces groups.
