After all the preparation, it’s time to finally take the General Management Admissions Test (GMAT). You’ve drilled and run the simulations so many times you feel you can do it in your sleep. Get A Good Night’s Sleep – Cramming and drilling is fine, but only to a point. Walking to the test facility with only 2-3 hours of sleep is a guaranteed way to make a number of mistakes you wouldn’t make if you were fresh and alert. Some breakfast doesn’t hurt either.

Take Plenty of Scrap Paper and Pens – True; about 80% of the test is multiple choice. This doesn’t mean you won’t be doing calculations. The test facility is supposed to have pencils and papers on hand. Stock up. You don’t want to leave questions unanswered because you were waiting for more paper. Scope Out the Facility and Dress In Layers – Just because it’s a sunny day outside doesn’t mean you’re testing facility’s air conditioning is working or going turbo. Freezing hands or dripping sweat on one’s scrap paper isn’t conducive to maximum performance in an exam situation. Also make sure you know where such things as the facilities and the water fountain are. It’s an all-day exam after all…and sometimes nature can’t wait all day.　

Familiarize Yourself With Your Terminal – As said many times before, the GMAT is now online. Therefore, make sure your terminal is fully functional before you start the test. Once the test begins, they aren’t going to care if the mouse doesn’t work. While you’re at it, make sure your desk and chair are to your liking. Pace Yourself – Don’t get overconfident or freeze up. This is what all that drilling and simulation runs are going to pay off. In fact, you shouldn’t have even signed up for the GMAT until you could do a test run smoothly at home. Go too fast and you might miss an important piece of info. Go too slow, and you will be severely penalized due to unanswered questions. A steady pace, like finishing a segment with one to two minutes to spare, is the way to go.

In all, what you are really doing here is maximizing your working environment. By doing so, you are setting the table for you to run through the test under the best circumstances possible for you. When people do this, it’s been found their test scores reflect this positive situation. Do it for yourself and your MBA enrollment is just around the corner.
